Bay Area singer/songwriter, guitarist, promoter, and musician's advocate Ian Brennan's umpteenth self-released solo recording of primitive pop and folk-inspired songs is a dusky and downbeat collection devoted to suburban teen angst. Deep drum'n'bass sounds support the moody, acoustic guitar compositions, but Brennan gets a big sound from the simple treatments, especially on "Keeping Up With the Joneses," with the addition of keyboards and backing vocals. Teenage folkie Noe Venable adds voice to the poignant "Photo Finish," and superb singers Bart Davenport and Patty Spiglanin (of Vagabond Lovers) chime in on the album's sadly beautiful closer, "Keeping Up With the Joneses."
