This EP follows COH's full-length Iron and takes a very different direction. This is a collection of songs, in lack of a better expression. Each of the four tracks features different collaborators, but they were all recruited in the entourage of Coil. The CD begins with a highly personal rendition of Soft Cell's "Meet Murder My Angel" (retitled here "My Angel [Director's Cut]"). Peter Christopherson whispers the words over the offbeat glitch electronics of Ivan Pavlov (the man behind COH). The Vicious Pink track "Fffetish" is sung by Frankie Gothard. This is the closest Pavlov came to dancefloor action, but of course the atmosphere of the piece and his own approach make it particularly disturbing and dark. The lyrics and vocals in "Prayer for Russell" (named after gay porn actor Russell Moore) are handled by Cyclobe's Steve Thrower, while "Health and Deficiency: Love's Septic Domain" includes vocal performances by John Balance and Louise Weasel. The whole project is soaked in a retro '80s alternative atmosphere, plus an extra bit of S&M, all rolled into the hardcore techno and glitch electronica of the late '90s. If any comparison should arise, it would have to be Pantychrist. Love Uncut is interesting, the overlaying subject twisted, but not especially compelling. The packaging is superb.
