Indeed the title is somewhat telling of the ex-Swell Maps avant-punk guitarist and vocalist's direction as a solo artist who was not as much lost as he was buried in the music of great scarf-wearing groups from the past. T. Rex, the Rolling Stones, the Velvet Underground, and Big Star are just a few of the key influences that Sudden shamelessly wears on his sleeve. Nikki Sudden's style of reinterpreting the spirit of rock & roll goes beyond the look, however -- in the post-punk canon, his gift for songcraft made Sudden; his late brother, Epic Soundtracks; and his own private Keith Richards, Dave Kusworth, together the true heirs to the thrumming groove of the Velvet Underground as much as the elating pop ballad à la Big Star.
