Lo Esencial de la Musica Grupera Review

by Heather Phares

Lo Esencial de la Musica Grupera offers a sampling of Tejano, banda and norteño singles, featuring tracks like Bronco's "Que No Quede Huella," Emilio Navaira's "El Rey del Rodeo," Banda Maguey's "Quiero Volver," and two tracks from Los Humildes, "Media Vida" and "Amor Eterno." Other highlights include Banda la Costeña's "El Brincaito" and Los Guardianes del Amor's "Amor Se Escribe con Llanto." Though it's not necessarily a definitive historical collection of boleros, the collection does feature a good mix of contemporary grupero artists who both respect the roots of Tejano, banda, and norteño and try to make them sound modern as well.
