AllMusic Review by

In 1985, Stanley Cowell performed solo at the Toronto club Cafe des Copains and fortunately one night's music was recorded. On what was only his second album of unaccompanied solos (and his first had used overdubbing and electronics), Cowell performs six bop standards (including "Waltz for Debbie," "Joy Spring," and "My One and Only Love"), his own "Equipoise," and a surprising stride version of "You Took Advantage of Me," which was inspired by seeing Art Tatum play when he was a child. This set offers listeners a highly enjoyable all-around overview of Stanley Cowell's talents as a pianist.
