A limited-edition release with no packaging whatsoever besides a jewel case and the CD itself, Live @ For Those Who Know II, May 2002 documents an hour of DJ Rolando's set at that year's Detroit Electronic Music Festival. The excellent-sounding soundboard recording isn't taken from the festival itself but rather from the Underground Resistance afterparty, For Those Who Know II, that was held at the Johanson Gallery in Detroit's Eastern Market until the early hours of morning. Rolando's set here differs greatly from his standard mix CDs for UR, such as The Aztec Mystic Mix (1999) and Vibrations (2003); unlike those mixes, which are comprised strictly of UR tracks, this one is comprised of quite the opposite. Rolando throws down mainly house rather than his usual assortment of techno classics, and he's a bit more showy with his mixing than usual -- and wonderfully so at that. As you might presume, given that this mix dates back to 2002, Rolando highlights his big record of the time, "Jaguar." He then follows it with some more spectacular mixing, as he cuts up a Latin house track with a storm of percussion. The CD cuts off soon after and you can't help wishing you could hear the rest. Live @ For Those Who Know II, May 2002 complements Rolando's aforementioned other mix CDs perfectly; though it doesn't feature anywhere near as many UR classics as those mixes -- and may be considerably difficult to obtain unless you shop at Submerge -- it's very freewheeling, is more representative of what his live sets are really like, and most enjoyably, highlights his talent for mixing.
