The annual desert party Burning Man, held at Black Rock in Nevada, attracts thousands of people and is becoming more famous each year for its art, music, and no-holds-barred festivities. This progressive trance CD was recorded live at the "community dance," an all-night trance party following the Burn, which is the main event of the festival. The two-disk set includes more than two-and-a-half hours of music by three internationally renowned DJs. It starts off with a 71-minute mix by Goa Gil. The second CD is split between the dynamic duo known as Ceiba (individual members are Peter Ziegelmeier and Adam Ohana) and Ziegelmeier's other project, Kode IV. Though Goa Gil's moniker comes from his fame as a Goa trance DJ, this set does not include any Goa; it's straightforward trance straight through. Songs blur into each other indistinguishably, and the energy never seems to lull. Ceiba and Kode IV's sets are much more dynamic. Ziegelmeier is considered to be one of the frontrunners in psychedelic trance, industrial trance, and other progressive subgenres; as such, he serves up tripped-out, hypnotic, pulse-raising beats with the best of 'em. All songs on the second CD are written by Ziegelmeier, though Ohana collaborated on the Ceiba tracks. It's best to remember that these CDs are not intended for introspective listening. They were recorded at one of the world's biggest parties, and their purpose is to get you dancing.
