The joy, pain, and hope that ran in those wonderful gospel services I used to hear walking down the streets of Harlem when I was a kid are alive here. That is one of the great strengths of this CD. It also leads to one of its weaknesses, not enough of the interaction with the crowd is heard, and let's be honest: the crowd can boost any performance, but most especially a Black gospel event. The Mighty Wonders are an immensely talented group and this disc should bring them national recognition. Their voices ring with the conviction and passion of their beliefs. At one point during their "Tribute to Gospel" (the only song not written by them), I was sure it was Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers singing (I don't know that I can think of a higher compliment to a gospel group). Just listen to them let it all go on both "Tribute to Reprise" and "Safety Zone." My horses were jumpin' with the sound. This group from Winston-Salem, NC, is going to be heard from and hopefully seen. I'd jump at the chance to see this brand of excitement.
