In the early 2000s, seemingly every Brooklyn combo needed an obscure '80s hit to rework for loft dancefloors, but Dirty on Purpose's take on Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" from the LIKE BEES EP not only reinvents the hummable chestnut, but also injects DOP's shoegazer sound with a blistering disco-punk energy that fits the bands oceanic guitar noise like a studded glove. LIKE BEES is a treat of modern dance rock: marrying the tunesmanship of early Belle and Sebastian with the spry noise-funk of My Bloody Valentine's "Soon." This is the sound of a band meriting its surrounding hype.
