Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson has a side project. Special Goodness is its name. He sings and writes the songs. Quite ably in both cases. The three-song Life Goes By single contains two songs from the band's second full-length record, Land Air Sea. "Life Goes By" and "Day in Autumn" are crisp, emotional pop-punk with a lyrical sweetness missing from Wilson's regular band. Otherwise they sound like Weezer B-sides and there is no shame in that. The third song is a demo for "Natural," a hooky ballad that didn't make the cut for the album. There is much goodness to be had in Special Goodness, and this single is a nice demonstration of it. You should probably just go ahead and get the record. Weezer fans will not be disappointed.
