Marty Simon, who composed, arranged, and performed the music for the television series Lexx, finds ample opportunity to try a little bit of everything (everything you can get electronically, anyway) in scoring the unusual science fiction show, which presents the adventures of the crew members (particularly the buxom Zev/Xev) of a spaceship that is really a sort of giant insect. Simon occasionally borrows from earthbound sources, such as the South African music that informs the first track here, "Opening Theme - Season 3." But most of the time he sounds like he's been influenced by the music on other sci-fi TV series, particularly Star Trek. The soundtrack contains bits of dialogue that will increase the enjoyment of viewers who buy it as a souvenir. The cues are taken from various episodes and make up a lengthy suite of varied moods, from serene to ominous and tense. This isn't particularly inspired music, but it does its job week to week on the show.
