AllMusic Review by

The Daniel Balavoine edition in the 50 Plus Belles Chansons series traces, over the course of three discs, his own perceptive read on the tradition and his mutation of it to fit his idea of musical futurism. From his first near-hit, “Lady Marlène,” all the way through to late-era masterpieces such as the charging “Petit Homme Mort au Combat” and the languid “Bateau Tojours,” Balavoine’s unique take on popular song is presented with terrific sound and for a budget price.
