The Best of Salsa kicks its particular cheesecake cover shot up a notch by having the shirtless cover star grip a trumpet in his hand. It's ridiculous, of course, but then again Madacy's Latin Seduction series isn't known for its subtlety. It features 12 salsa numbers from a series of midlevel and unknown players who don't necessarily turn in bad performances, but don't do anything particularly memorable, either. Los Titanes' boisterous "Ella Sabe Que Me Gusta" is a standout, as is Joe Arroyo y la Verdad's "Fuego en Mi Mente," with its big horns and lead vocal. Overall, the collection is generally entertaining, with flashes of instrumental work or twinges of vocal prowess that please. But it doesn't exactly live up to its name, and I'll eat my hat if the guy on the cover plays a horn anywhere in this set.
