Juan-Carlos Formell is a superb and delicate guitar player who on this album blends traditional Cuban folklore with an eclectic and modern production style. Formell has been frequently linked with jazz, but listeners won't get much of it on this production. Most of the tunes are Latin-based. These are good songs, the musicians' performances are excellent, and there's a deep care for the arrangements. Each song is beautiful, but as a whole the album lacks dramatic variety; it leaves you with a sense of sameness. The production is too clean and the songs are radio-friendly. "Caracolera," "Fuego de Amor," and the instrumental piece "Vista del Amanecer" are the outstanding tracks on this enjoyable album.
