AllMusic Review by

The most eclectic percussionist in Montreal, Pierre Tanguay is having as much fun with traditional Mediterranean music (with the Strada ensemble) than in Ambiances magnétiques' large-scale free improvisational bands. He released his first solo album after being active as a player for over twenty years -- he's been on most Ambiances magnétiques records since 1990. On La musique de mon disque (The Music on my Record), the listener is invited to a delicate exploration of the rhythmical and resounding universe of Pierre Tanguay. With the exception of a six-minute track, the 16 pieces vary in length from 2:30 to 4:30. These little snapshots are made with drums from various origins, small objects, glasses, bottles, bells. Tanguay slows down some sounds to reveal their inner textures. The result is charming: intriguing sound sculptures, little kaleidoscopic universes. Don't look for a beat -- on this record, Tanguay caresses a lot more than he hits. His music isn't challenging, it is as unpretentious as the title announced -- simply the illustration of a percussionist's sound universe.
