La Grande Épopée du Rap Français features a variety of French rap artists, showcasing the numerous ways these artists adapted the predominantly American rap sound to the French language and culture. Regarding language, French works fairly well with the rhyme-driven nature of rap music since the language makes such a heavy use of vowels, something that makes rhyming much easier. Regarding culture, these French MCs tackle many of the same topics as their American peers, though there's less of an emphasis on violence and boasting. The beats on these songs are arguably the most obvious departure from American rap, being more trip-hop influenced than funk or soul influenced. Overall, EMI has put together a great showcase for French rap.
