AllMusic Review by

Sabine Meyer is recognized the world over as one of the great classical clarinetists, and her recordings for EMI, now on Warner Classics, have been consistently popular with connoisseurs and fans since the 1980s. This five-CD box set consists primarily of her concerto recordings, which include clarinet masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Louis Spohr, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Vinzenz Krommer, Claude Debussy, Carl Nielsen, and Toru Takemitsu, along with quintets by Carl Maria von Weber and Heinrich Baermann, all mainstays of her repertoire. Also included is Homage to Benny Goodman, an album released in 1998 that featured Meyer with her brother, clarinetist Wolfgang Meyer, in performances of pieces by Malcolm Arnold, Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, and Leonard Bernstein, with big-band arrangements of music by Niccolò Paganini, Mel Powell, Louis Prima, Goodman, and others. Recorded between 1997 and 2006, these performances have been released previously on single CDs, so collectors should look closely to see if they already own them. The box set offers minimal packaging, with original cover art on the cardboard sleeves but without a booklet.
