This album is a rich mix of Cape Verdean musical styles. The liner notes say that this recording is an expression of the state of the Cape Verdean Creole soul. In that case, the state of the Cape Verdean soul is richly rhythmic and vibrant. On this album the coladeiras, a Cape Verdean dance rhythm, are full of fire and pulse with energy. The funanas, another traditional dance rhythm, are fast and furious. The two mornas are soulful and full of the nostalgic sad longing for the home islands. The configuration of musicians for this album feature some well know Cape Verdean and Angolan names, such as Tito Paris, Jonny Fonseca and Danny Carvalho. "Judeu," "Bengosin," and "Salsabura" are standout dance tracks. A good introduction for listeners not familiar with Cape Verdean music. A quality staple release for those already swinging to the soul of Cape Verdean musical styles and rhythms.
