AllMusic Review by

Because they're on Regal and favor thick-cut dub rhythms, cosmic electronic noodling, and expansive, languorous melodies, Brothers in Sound too often are pegged as little more than a junior-edition Beta Band, but that's a disservice. Sure, there are obvious parallels between the two groups -- and fans of the Betas are certainly recommended to give Just Like a Day a chance -- but Brothers in Sound bypass the epic scale of their labelmates for an approach that is even looser in practice but more concise in principle, with shorter running times, simple arrangements, and muted vocals that blend into the overall atmosphere. What Just Like a Day lacks is any kind of gravity -- the songs are undeniably clever and effervescent, but after the disc ends they fail to stick in the memory at all.
