AllMusic Review by

Jumpin' Jive is a collection of vintage big-band hits by leaders both swinging (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway) and not (Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw). Though songs like "Take the 'A' Train," "One O'Clock Jump" and the title track are naturals for a set like this, duds like "Pennsylvania 6-5000" and "Rose of Washington Square" were the heart of squaresville back in the mid-'40s. It makes you wonder whether the label was actually trying to compile a set of crucial music or just looking to make a few bucks off the swing revival of the late '90s.
