This 1983 LP from the obsolete Pausa label has a dozen of Julia Lee's better Capitol recordings, all but one from 1946-1949. Lee, a fine pianist, tended to sing fairly obvious but cute double-entendre lyrics. Falling between swing-oriented jazz, blues, and R&B, the recordings on this set feature such interesting players and sidemen as trombonist Vic Dickenson, altoist Benny Carter, Dave Cavanaugh on tenor, and guitarist Jim "Daddy" Walker, among many others. Highlights include "King Size Papa," "Crazy World," "Snatch and Grab It," and "I Was Wrong" (which has a spot for cornetist Red Nichols). Some, but not all, of this music has since been reissued on CD in samplers.
