In Swaggie's second volume of small-group sides by violinist Joe Venuti and guitarist Eddie Lang, five sessions are reissued in full. The first ten titles match the pair with Jimmy Dorsey (who switches between clarinet, alto and baritone) on some delightful performances; composer Harold Arlen takes vocals on four of the numbers. In addition the Venuti-Lang All-Star Orchestra (with trumpeter Charlie Teagarden, trombonist Jack Teagarden and clarinetist Benny Goodman) performs classic versions of four standards ("Beale Street Blues," "After You've Gone," "Farewell Blues" and "Someday Sweetheart") and Venuti welcomes both Jimmy Dorsey and bass saxophonist Adrian Rollini to a particularly wild four-song session in 1933. Essential and timeless music.
