AllMusic Review by

A collection of great unreleased stuff from the vaults of Gotham material that was originally issued on Bruce Bastin's Flyright label (right down to the liner notes). These sides feature a treasure trove of great jazz artists (Tiny Grimes, Red Prysock, Jo Jones, Freddy Green, Ray Bryant, Walter Page, Bill Doggett, Count Basie, Frank Motley, even a very young John Coltrane) all backing various R&B and blues shouters like Summers, Jimmy Rushing, Harry Crafton, Gay Crosse, Benny Brown, and Lloyd "Fat Man" Smith. Highlights include Summers' "Hey Mr. J.B.," Rushing's "Ain't It Lonesome," Crafton's "Bring That Cadillac Back," and Crosse's "Fat Sam From Birmingham," which features Coltrane gently riffing in the background.
