AllMusic Review by

In 1978 United Artists briefly revived the Pacific Jazz label by putting out a few LP samplers drawn from the valuable catalog. This album covers the first half of the 1960s and puts the emphasis on soul-jazz. Among the artists featured are Les McCann, Bobby Hutcherson, Wes Montgomery, Groove Holmes, Stanley Turrentine, Gerald Wilson's Orchestra (the hit "Viva Tirado"), The Jazz Crusaders, Bud Shank and Dizzy Gillespie. This was a worthy reissue series for the period although later CD programs would bring back most of this material in a more definitive fashion.
