The English Spotlite label has long been one of the top bop record companies, not only releasing virtually the entire Dial catalog but also coming up with important radio broadcasts from the second half of the 1940s. This LP has performances from two concerts. The "Junior Jazz at the Auditorium" features trumpeter Howard McGhee, tenor-saxophonist Lucky Thompson, a good Los Angeles rhythm section and several guests on three recent bop tunes and "Lover." In addition, the "WNEW Saturday Night Swing Session" has an all-star band (with trumpeter Fats Navarro, trombonist Bill Harris, Allen Eager and Charlie Ventura on tenors and a four-piece rhythm section that includes drummer Buddy Rich) jamming on two numbers; Navarro takes solo honors.
