AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

This out-of-print Lp from MCA's early 1980's Jazz Heritage series gave listeners a good cross-section of Chick Webb's earlier recordings. There are two titles apiece from 1929 and 1931 (with spots taken by trombonist Jimmy Harrison and trumpeters Ward Pinkett and Louis Bacon) and ten numbers from the 1934-36 period including "Don't Be That Way," "Blue Lou" and an Ella vocal on "A Little Bit Later On." The rewarding album has since been superceded by a pair of Classics CD's.
