This LP features two New Orleans bands both sounding in excellent form in 1962. Trombonist Jim Robinson gets one of his rare opportunities to lead a group and his pianoless sextet with trumpeter Ernie Cagnolatti and clarinetist Louis Cottrell stretches out with spirit on four strong ensemble-oriented numbers. For the flip-side pianist Billie Pierce and her husband, trumpeter De De Pierce, head a sextet with trombonist Louis Nelson and clarinetist George Lewis on five songs, highlighted by Billie's vocal on "Love Songs of the Nile." The set is far superior to many of the later Preservation Hall-type recordings and this valuable music should be reissued on CD.
