The spirit of '70s soft rock is alive and well on the islands of Hawaii, and Island Style is the evidence. There are no hulas or any other indigenous music here, but the spirit of the islands comes through loud and clear. Songs are breezy and sweet with an overall positive attitude. Desirée Cruz's wistful "Eo Palolo" and the grooving "Coconut Culture" by Allan Thomas are the highlights, but there's really no junky filler. Most of the acts prefer acoustic over electronic, and quite often the base of the song is a lilting reggae beat. Don't expect anything deep, but the collection provides the perfect soundtrack for an easygoing day.
