This French import is a pleasant collection, but it lacks an essential connection to its source material. One cannot really fault Malone's singing, which is strong and lusty, and the instrumentation is traditional, with the necessary acoustic guitar, pipes and accordion all present and accounted for. But the polished production removes much of the rugged quality of the original songs. If you're looking for better treatment of the same material, you might try Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers.
