Vol. 2 out of what is scheduled to be ten CDs of unreleased and rare performances by Swedish baritonist Lars Gullin has more than its share of rewarding music. Lars Gullin is heard with the Erwin Lehn Orchestra on three songs (one of which also features altoist Lee Konitz), in several different small groups with Konitz (including a version of "Ablution" that has both Gullin and Konitz on baritones), as a star with the Kurt Edelhagen Orchestra, and with tenor saxophonist Hans Koller. The music is taken from concerts and studio performances with the music divided into originals by Gullin and Konitz and standards, including four very different versions of "Lover Man." Gullin, one of jazz's greatest baritonists, is in top form throughout this set of straightahead music; virtually all of his recordings are well-worth searching for.
