The members of Hatepulse are experienced veterans of the Norwegian black metal scene, and their debut EP, In Extenso Letalis, proves it. Technically accomplished and surprisingly loose at the same time, the five samples of semi-orchestral black metal collected here slot right into the proud Scandinavian tradition one has grown accustomed to. The employment of a drum machine makes for some odd moments (particularly during the album's only weaker link, "Suicidal Melancholia"), but much stronger, extremely confident offerings like "The Cynical Aftermath" and "The Avenger" more than cover the losses. Should they manage to stay together, rather than lose interest amidst so many projects, Hatepulse may have a pretty good album or two in them.
