In a New Orleans Jam Session Review

by Scott Yanow

This is a standard Dixieland record from the mid-1950s, well-played but with no surprises and few real sparks. Trumpeter Sharkey Bonano sounds fine, as do his sidemen (trombonist Jack Delaney, clarinetist Boojie Centobie, pianist Stanley Mendelson, bassist Arnold Loyacano and drummer Abbie Brunies), but nothing unexpected or overly exciting occurs. They perform such numbers on this out-of-print LP as "Farewell Blues," "She's Crying For Me," "High Society" and "Bill Bailey" in workmanlike fashion.
