This is one of the best and unfortunately last recordings of Banerjee, the incomparable sitarist. His beautiful rendering of "Purabi Kalyan," a combined raga, expresses with restraint the peaceful and devout mood of this twilight raga through an original melody. Another combined raga, "Zila-Kafi," is next, played with liberal development of the romantic mood. The concluding South Indian raga, "Kirwani," begins in a mood of devotion and develops into a fast Jhala.
