A superb punk rock band with wild, energetic shows, the Pattern are five guys who do a lot of flailing about while they play their instruments. They're also on the handsome side of the punk rock spectrum, and have more than their fair share of ladies in the audience. Singer Chris Appelgren is the CEO of Lookout Records, an established punk rock label out of Berkeley. His former band, the Peechees, were very much in the same vein as the Pattern. Actually, other than the fact that all the other members are different, the bands sound virtually the same. Both the Peechees in their time and the Pattern pulled the whoop-ass out of the can live, but the Pattern, like the Peechees before them, don't particularly distinguish themselves on record. The six songs on Immediately definitely rock, but the listener might find themselves playing it only a couple of times before discarding it for something else. While Appelgren is an entertaining spazz in concert, on record his voice sounds high-pitched and adolescent. Still, fans of the band will want to pick this up.
