This was a decidedly mixed bag as an LP or part of a CD reissue (with Summer Stock added on). On the one hand, Donald O'Connor is so good in his musical numbers in the Josef Myrow/Mack Gordon score to I Love Melvin, that he almost overpowers the movie itself, a delightful but paper-thin confection intended to capitalize on O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds' success in Singin' in the Rain. On the other hand, the Debbie Reynolds numbers and much of the rest of the score beyond O'Connor's contribution are fairly lightweight. So one can really recommend I Love Melvin as a musical only so far without hesitating. The Burton Lane co-authored score for Everything I Have Is Yours is more consistent, but there are only four numbers from that film, which was primarily a dance showcase for Marge and Gower Champion. Additionally, MCA's reissue is missing one song from I Love Melvin, "A Lady Loves," as MCA says they never received it as part of the library of masters from the MGM library that they had licensed. Still, this is an enjoyable collection, especially if one is willing to skip over the novelty and effects tunes from the score for I Love Melvin.
