Many listeners were introduced to jazz through this well-conceived sampler LP from the late '50s. The dozen selections range from the ragtime of Wally Rose and the blues of Bessie Smith through the various forms of Dixieland and swing. Oddly enough bop is bypassed but there is "Progressive Jazz" from Pete Rugolo and "Modern Jazz" from Dave Brubeck. A much more recent I Like Jazz Columbia set on CD has a completely different program that is much less memorable.
