AllMusic Review by

There is simply too much Billy Childish music available (good, bad, and indifferent) to examine here in great detail. Fortunately, America's super-hip indie label Sub Pop released this superb two-CD anthology that gets to the heart of Childish's aesthetic, offering an extremely strong selection of material that covers a nearly 14-year period. Subtitled 50 Songs from 50 Records, you will get a taste of nearly all of Childish's bands and hear "Fun in the U.K.," which he recorded with his short-lived Pop Rivets. Fans of idiosyncratic singer/songwriters like Kevin Coyne and Jonathan Richman may find themselves immediately enamored of Childish's defiantly different approach to rock & roll. If that's the case, the liner information in this set provides a solid discographical overview of Childish's work from the late '70s up to the early '90s. Buyer alert: this set was originally limited to 1, 500 copies; it's a mystery as to how many are still for sale.
