Art Linkletter's House Party was a radio and then television show on which Muzzy Marcellino became a regular. Formerly a guitarist, Marcellino is perhaps the most famous of pop whistlers, and he's certainly capable of convincing anyone that his instrument should be taken seriously. Taking whistling albums themselves seriously (or Art Linkletter, for that matter) may be another matter.
On House Party, the best tracks are "Hawaiian Calypso" and "Heap Big Chief," which seems to pay homage to Raymond Scott's "War Dance for Wooden Indians." "Freeway Jam" also is a standout, and the western theme "The High and the Mighty" is a made-to-order whistling cover.
