AllMusic Review by

Nine different clarinetists are heard in a variety of settings on this generally well-conceived set, most of the key players from the 1920s with the exception of the absent Johnny Dodds. Tony Parenti is in brilliant form on "Old Man Rhythm," Benny Goodman greatly uplifts Irene Beasley's "Choo Choo Train" and there are also selections featuring Pee Wee Russell, the underrated Jimmy Lytell, Jimmy Dorsey, Volly DeFaut (backing Kitty Irvin), Don Murray, Buster Bailey and Jimmie Noone (doing what he can behind Lillie Delk Christian). An excellent set of material, much of which is still rare.
