Hip Hop Don't Stop, Vol. 2 Review

by John Bush

There's a definite lack in quality hip-hop compilations from the 1980s, but don't blame Solid State Records or their ongoing series of Hip Hop Don't Stop compilations. The second volume is just as excellent as the first, with well-known hits from Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC, N.W.A, and KRS-One alongside lesser-hyped but just as great names like Mantronix, Ultramagnetic MC's, and Man Parrish. Hip-hop rarely gets better than this, and it took a British label to bring it to the Americans' attention.
