AllMusic Review by

The debut for this German Celtic rock outfit showed promise in theory; however, Highlander failed to deliver the studio goods. The vision of combining pop, arena rock, prog, and Scottish folk was an ambitious undertaking, but too frequently the album relied on clich├ęd elements of those various musical categories. On occasion Claymore got it right ("Lancelot" and the quirky "Hopp Frog"), but as a whole this album simply served as experience required for future growth.
