This intriguing set is very different than most of the releases put out by the Leo Lab label. Although some of the selections are fairly free improvisations, there are also some melodic pieces that look a bit toward Pat Metheny and even aspects of new age. Guitarist Christy Doran and pianist John Wolf Brennan are both adventurous soloists who are quite versatile and not shy to hang on to a melody now and then. Their interplay is impressive, as is their wit, and this set will certainly keep listeners guessing, whether it is "Circle of Coherence," "Waltz for Erik Satie," or "Woodstock Revisited."
