AllMusic Review by

The first of former Discordance Axis vocalist Jon Chang's two post-DA projects to achieve release, Hayaino Daisuki are an international commando squad of underground thrash and grindcore stars -- the guitar work is by Takafumi Matsubara of Japanese thrashers Mortalized (and Chang's other band, GridLink), while the (relentless and yet intricate and progressive) drumming is by Eric Schnee of the Binding and Paria. The group plays at full speed nonstop, and Chang uses half his vocal range, sticking to a high-pitched shriek without delving into the low-end growls he used to add variety to Discordance Axis songs. At one point toward the end of the fourth track, "Aka," there's a recitation in a calm female voice, but it's buried in the mix so you can't quite hear what she's saying. The four songs on this 14-minute blast of fury are all nonstop thrash assaults with riffs reminiscent of Rigor Mortis that would be melodic and headbang-worthy if Hayaino Daisuki ever slowed down or offered an opportunity for the slightest bit of dynamics to creep in -- but they don't. Unlike with grindcore, though, there's room for greater expression here, and Matsubara in particular takes the opportunity, cutting loose with blindingly fast, shredding solos. So in a way it's a good thing that this record comes at the listener as furiously as it does, because an hour of it would be totally exhausting. The 14 minutes here are just about enough.
