The lack of liner notes to Harbotastic are unfortunate, for tenor saxophonist Kristian Harborg, a fine hard bop-oriented tenor saxophonist from Sweden, is unknown in the United States. Tone-wise, Harborg's playing is at times reminiscent of Sonny Rollins, although his choice of notes tends to be more modern. Joined by an excellent trio, Harborg performs seven of his originals. While none of his songs (most memorable is the medium-tempo blues "The Sole of Jonas Kullhammar") are destined to be covered by Americans, they stimulate the musicians to play and swing at their best.
