Drummer Dave Cook is the leader of this Arizona-based septet, but mostly plays a supportive role. Organist Eddie Hollis contributed seven of the nine selections, guest organist Joey DeFrancesco helps out on four songs, and the key soloists include both Jim Henry and Jesse McGuire on trumpets. The music is straight-ahead, often blues-oriented, and falls into both hard bop and soul-jazz. The musicians (none but DeFrancesco are known much outside of Arizona) are all excellent, showing that there is a lot of jazz talent to be discovered outside of the bigger cities. Well-worth searching for.
