AllMusic Review by

This LP from the English Hep label has some rare radio airchecks from three somewhat obscure Los Angeles-based bands. Wilbert Baranco's Orchestra features such major soloists as trumpeter Snooky Young, trombonist Britt Woodman and tenor-great Lucky Thompson, Gerald Wilson's early big band has the benefit of the immediately recognizable tenor of Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and arranger Jimmy Mundy's Orchestra (heard in two different settings) not only has some solos by trumpeter Ray Linn and tenor spots for Lucky Thompson, Babe Russin and Corky Corcoran but a rare Mundy vocal on "Rhythm Is All I Have." The music overall is bop-influenced swing and, since the studio recordings of these big bands are not available, this album is worth searching for.
