Although it is far from definitive, Rebound/Polygram Special Markets' Greatest Hits is a pretty good sampler of Brook Benton's classic recordings for Mercury. There are a number of hits that are missing, but "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)," "The Boll Weevil Song," "Rainy Night in Georgia" and "Frankie and Johnny" make it worth its budget price, since they're all indelible classics. That can't be said for the rest of the collection, which ranges from the very good to the very silly (such as "The Intoxicated Rat," for instance). Some collectors may find the oddities worth the budget price, while casual fans will likely find enough hits to make it worthwhile. Neither group will find it satisfactory, since it teeters between the hits and the obscure, but such matters as price cancel out such concerns.
