This DVD features the late great, singer/songwriter performing with a variety of bands, and spanning multiple decades. Here, footage culled from a live concert shows Roy Orbison leading some rockabilly-style jamming with a young Bruce Springsteen. This set also features Elvis Costello playing a cheesy sounding electric keyboard, and Tom Waits strumming an acoustic guitar. The performances are in black & white or color film footage.
The producers of this set wisely interspersed scenes of the artist discussing his past, including the events leading up to his first hit, titled "Oooby Dooby." There's also a video of Orbison singing "Crying" with vocalist k.d. lang. Another video, titled "She's A Mystery To Me," typifies Orbison's penchant for composing heartwarming lyrics, relevant to lost love amid the trials and tribulations of relationships. Other niceties include the original acetate version of the 1957 song, "An Empty Cup (And a Broken Date)," which was found within Orbison's archives. This song can also be heard in a digitally re-mastered version. Overall, this DVD provides a telltale glimpse into Orbison's rather storied legacy.
