After the original configuration of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five parted ways, Melle Mel retained the group's name (at least the "Grandmaster" and "Furious Five" monikers) and continued recording. Mel was an integral part of the original Furious Five, and helped write many of the crew's best lyrics, including the rap classic "The Message," and he applied those same skills to his pair of mid-'80s albums with the Furious Five. Original group members Scorpio and Cowboy remained on board, and while the results don't quite match the old-school hip-hop perfection of the Flash material, there is still plenty to appreciate here, including a killer remix of "White Lines."
