Illogic comes straight outta Cowtown, the nickname that Columbus dwellers have long given their city. He and his Weightless Crew are trying valiantly and passionately to put the area on the hip-hop map; unfortunately, the results are decidedly mixed. Illogic bills himself as a spoken word artist as much as a rapper, and that influence shows on Got Lyrics?; his rhymes flow fast and in a monotone, reminiscent of a fellow cerebral talent, the underappreciated Del tha Funkee Homosapien. However, the production is not very innovative or invigorating. The jazzy loops remain far in the background, not complementing the rapping at all, and certainly lacking the charisma to stand on their own should he choose to do instrumental remixes. Get Illogic an innovative producer who's unafraid to take chances and the MC could make some noise, because he certainly has more than enough prowess behind the mic. The DJ-friendly double-vinyl version of the record includes a bonus track featuring a guest appearance from New York's Aesop Rock.
